It has been reported on CNN that the vast majority of those who worked to clean up the 1989 Exxon Valdez oil spill in Alaska are now dead. Yes, you read that correctly. Almost all of them are dead.

Everyone is so proud of South Africa, how a supposedly derelict African nation is able to organise such a grand-scale sporting event. Unlike many others, I still read my daily newspaper to inform myself. I read columns about the aftermath of Apartheid still having an adverse affect upon the Black population and all that nonsense. What I don’t read about however is the plight and discrimination that especially the Afrikaans-speaking part of the population is suffering.
