The Most Ancient University of Rome Refuses to Welcome Pope Benedict XVI
The Vatican has cancelled the proposed visit of Pope Benedict XVI on 17th to the most ancient University of Rome, ‘La Sapienza’ (The Wisdom) owing to the protests of a section of professors and students of the University.
The refusal to welcome the pope rises from the fact that ‘the pope is against Scientific temper’. In a speech on 15th March, 1990 in the city of Parma, Cardinal Ratzinger had made these comments: ‘In the era of Galileo Galilee the Church was more faithful to reason than Galileo himself. The process carried out against Galileo was right and reasonable’.
